The short version

  1. Inverity looks at the asset and works out what kind of content it is.
  2. It routes the asset to the engine that handles that content best, at the quality level your profile asks for.
  3. It compares the result against your original.
  4. If the result is smaller at equivalent visual quality, it's kept. If not, your original is kept untouched.

Step 4 is the part most optimizers don't do, and it's why a skip in Inverity is a success rather than a failure.
