Getting started
Choose what to optimize
Pick the folders, collections, or products Inverity watches.
Connecting a source gives Inverity permission to reach your library. It doesn't start optimizing everything — you choose the scope.
Watched locations
A watched location is a folder, collection, content type, or product set that Inverity monitors. New media added there is optimized automatically, without you doing anything.
What a location looks like depends on the platform:
| Platform type | A watched location is |
|---|---|
| DAM (Bynder, Canto, Frontify, Acquia) | A collection or folder |
| Cloudinary | A folder or asset prefix |
| Headless CMS (Contentful, Sanity, Storyblok) | An asset library or content type |
| Store (Shopify, Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce) | Product images, by catalog or collection |
| WordPress | The media library, or a subset of it |
| HubSpot / Webflow | The file manager or asset library |
Optimizing what's already there
Watching a location handles new media going forward. To process the assets that are already in it, run optimization on the folder or collection from the dashboard. This is a one-off job — it processes the existing backlog and then hands back to automatic optimization for anything new.
Backlogs are where most of your first month's volume goes. A library of 20,000 images can easily be 40–60 GB at source size, which is more than the Foundation or Inference monthly allowance. Check Volume and usage before you kick off a large backfill.
Backfills consume volume fast
Volume is metered on the source size of everything you process, so a one-time backfill of an old library can use a whole month's allowance in an afternoon. Run a single folder first, look at the volume it consumed, then extrapolate before you point Inverity at the entire library.
A sensible starting scope
If you're not sure where to start, work in this order:
- Highest-traffic pages. The images on your homepage, top landing pages, and top product pages. Smallest volume, biggest visible effect.
- Recent content. The last few months of uploads — usually the largest and least optimized files, because nobody had time to compress them.
- The archive. Everything else, once you know your savings rate and your volume budget.
Excluding assets
Anything outside a watched location is untouched. If you need certain assets to stay byte-identical — legal artwork, print masters, files under an approval process — the simplest control is to keep them in a folder Inverity doesn't watch.
